The WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund (WIVF), managed by Hatteras Venture Partners, invests in early-stage healthcare companies developing technologies that improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and financial performance for WakeMed Health & Hospitals.

WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund combines Hatteras’ venture discipline with WakeMed’s clinical insight and operational expertise to support early-stage companies creating transformative solutions in medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, and patient experience. This enables early-stage companies to access subject-matter experts, pursue pilot opportunities, conduct research, and validate their solutions in real-world settings.

WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund’s mission is to accelerate innovations that deliver measurable benefits to patients, providers, and {community} health systems while generating competitive venture-style returns for WakeMed as the fund’s limited partner.

Launched in 2020, the WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund was created and managed by Hatteras Venture Partners with the active participation of WakeMed as strategic limited partner and Hatteras as institutional fund manager.

The fund builds on more than a decade of innovation at WakeMed and over twenty-five years of healthcare-focused venture investing at Hatteras.

WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund has reviewed 300+ early-stage healthcare opportunities and engaged 100+ WakeMed clinicians and operators in evaluations, pilots, and validation activities.

In 2025, WakeMed Innovation Venture Fund marked its fifth anniversary, underscoring how an actively engaged community health system as limited partner and an institutional venture firm as fund manager can together advance healthcare innovation.
